PHOTON INC. is a leading supplier of Laser Beam Profilers and electro-optical instrument systems for fast and accurate measurement, testing and analysis of laser and light sources, optical components for telecommunications, and other applications.

PHOTON INC. manufactures the LED Profiler, a far-field profiler that generates high dynamic range light intensity profiles of LEDs. The system characterizes the LED profile over a 260 degree wide range-of-view, and generates a complete, 3D profile of the test source. A thermo-electric cooled vacuum chuck option is also available to test bare-chip LEDs over a range of temperatures.

LED Profiler
The LED Profiler makes full 3-dimensional measurements of the light output of a packaged LED or a bare chip to ±130 degrees in times measured in seconds, rather than hours. In addition to the irradiance pattern, the LED Profiler reports the important Power-In-The-Cone parameter that is an indication of how well the light can be coupled to lenses and directed to a target area.

The LED Profiler uses goniometric methodology to measure true 3-dimensional profiles of optical components with up to 93 dB dynamic range. All measurements are taken with the packaged or bare chip LED inserted directly into the center of the instrument's radial measurement area. The measurements taken are:

Angular Width of the Light Beam
Spatial Profile of the Device
Power in the Cone
