Our motorized component line includes our unique PicomotorTM products as well as a family of high-speed closed-loop components. Our patented Picomotor products are based on a simple and elegant motor invention where a piezoelectric transducer turns a screw. These offer <30-nm resolution over an unlimited travel range with up to 5 lb (22 N) of force, and are well-suited for most "set-and-hold" optics and positioning applications.

Picomotor™ Actuators
PicomotorTM actuators are ideal devices for motorizing fine-positioning stages and mounts in your optical or mechanical systems. Use them with our optomechanical translation stages or your own custom devices. They have better than 30-nm resolution with minimal backlash, and can exert a 5-lb (22-N) force. Moreover, they have exceptional long-term stability and the ability to hold their position with no power applied. These last two features make the Picomotor unique among motion-control devices and ideal for typical set-and-hold applications.


Vacuum Picomotor™ Actuators

UHV Picomotor™ Actuators
These Picomotor™ actuators can be used in UHV environments (10^-9 Torr) as well as for VUV/EUV applications. Ideal for beam-steering and scientific vacuum motion-control applications, these actuators offer the same better than 30-nm resolution with minimal backlash along with excellent long-term stability and high stiffness, including the ability to maintain their set positions even in the power-off state. And, with tested lifetimes of over 15,000 cycles over a 2-mm round-trip travel, you can integrate them into your system with confidence.



Motorized Optical Mounts
Our motorized optical mounts combine the precision of our standard mounts with the resolution of our PicomotorTM actuator to provide the ultimate in precision motorized optical alignment. The compact picomotor housing adds only 0.75" to the overall thickness of these mounts. The angular resolution of these mounts is 0.7 µrad.

Some examples of mounts that can be motorized are Center mounts, Corner mounts, Gimbal mounts, Opti-ClawTM mounts.



Motorized Pint-Sized Mounts
These motorized mounts eliminate problems usually associated with small systems where there is little room to make adjustments and there is high sensitivity to adjustments by hand. The two Picomotor actuators that allow remote adjustment of the tip and tilt axes add only 0.5" of depth to these mounts. And these Pint-sized mounts are fully compatible with the posts, pedestals, and mounts you already own.



Motorized Fiber Positioners
By motorizing our XY fiber positioners, we've improved their resolution from 1.0 µm to finer than 0.1 µm. Combining one of these stages with our Model 9092 coupler body and clamp gives you a good motorized multimode-fiber positioner.




Motorized Rotary Stages
With a resolution better than 0.2 mrad and an overall thickness of just 0.63" (16.0 mm), our compact stainless-steel motorized rotary stages can be used for a number of applications, including positioning wave plates and polarizers. Each rotary stage includes adapters for mounting components with either 1" (25-mm) or 1/2" (12.5-mm) diameters. For motorized beam-steering applications, use our 45° adapters.


Motorized Kinematic Stages
These multi-axis positioners increase the utility of our popular kinematic stages by motorizing each of the axes. The addition of PicomotorTM actuators to each stage allows remote high-resolution (<30-nm) adjustment of various combinations of X, Y, Z, Qx, and Qy.

Motorized Stability Mount

The motorized stability mounts combines the stability of our Stability™ mounts with the precision and stiffness of our Picomotor™ actuators to provide the ultimate in precision motorized optical alignment. The unique optic-retention system minimizes wavefront distortion as well as maximizes overall mechanical stability. Mirror installation and removal is simple and fast, requiring no adhesives.
